Hi, I'm Sam

"Food, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."

This is me at about six months old. I can't quite tell if my expression is pain, excitement, or just "well, this is one out three things that babies do so I guess I'm doing something right." Whatever it may be, I think this is most definitely my earliest photographically documented experience with food.

Here's my latest:

This is me just this past weekend at Humphry Slocombe, at age 24. It's one of the best ice cream joints in San Francisco's Mission District. 24th and Harrison, to be exact. That in my hand is an absolutely delectable scoop of peanut butter curry ice cream. The look of satisfaction on my face doesn't do it justice, you'd really have to go and try one of their many eccentric flavors for yourself. But I'll leave my own further exploration of the place for another time...

This blog, Prête à Manger, meaning "ready to eat" in French, is meant to inform Bay Area locals and visitors alike of the gastronomical wealth that surrounds them. They may be aware of it, or think that they are, or they just might want to break away from their usual hotspots and check out something new. Whatever they seek, I hope to shed some new light on some salivating options.

So stay tuned!
